5 – Luigi’s Mansion – The Floating Shadow,

  • After the Area 3 boss battle on the balcony Luigi ventures into the telephone phone and answers some calls.
  • During the call there’s a lightning flash that shows Luigi’s shadow on the wall, except his shadow doesn’t look quite right.
  • The shadow is above the ground and is distorted in such a way that it looks like the shadow Luigi would give if he were hanging from a noose attached to the ceiling.

4 – Grand Theft Auto IV – The Chained Heart of Happiness,

  • GTA IV is set in a parody of New York, so of course it has its own version of the statue of liberty, this one has a grin that can only be described as disturbing, but that’s not all.
  • If you go to the island containing Statue of Happiness you’ll see a plaque saying ‘No Hidden Content this way’ which will, of course, make you want to enter the door next to the sign.
  • Through the door you’ll see a giant beating heart suspended by chains and surrounded by a miasma of blood red gas.

3 – Psychonauts – Milla and the Orphanage,

  • In the level in which you delve into Milla’s brain you find yourself in a disco-party inspired level, but there’s a secret hidden away in Milla’s subconscious.
  • As you get close to the secret room Milla asks what you’re doing and says that’s not where the party is at.
  • Once you ignore her and enter the room you see a group of burning figures circling you that yell ‘Why didn’t you save us Milla?’
  • The scrapbook found in the level explains the origin of this room: Milla used to work at an orphanage that burned down. No children escaped.

2 – Animal Crossing – Don’t Reset or Suffer as a Gyroid,

  • If you visit another player’s village in Animal Crossing you better remember to save before turning off the game, not because Mr Resetti will scold you, your fate is much worse than that.
  • Once you enter the game again after resetting the game in another player’s village without saving you’ll enter the game and your face is now three dark holes that resemble the face of the gyroids.
  • The gyroids look a lot like a type of Japanese burial statue that is said to contain the souls of the deceased. Not sure what that implies for your character’s soul, but it certainly can’t be good.

1 – Gameboy Camera – who are you running from?

gameboyfacts2

  • The Gameboy camera took low resolution snapshots of the world around you, which was pretty advanced for the time, but that’s not all it also included mini-games for you to play.
  • One of the mini-games was an RPG style game, like so many other turn based games it included a run option, but you never want to press that button.
  • If you do make the mistake of pressing RUN a distorted and frankly disturbing picture pops up along with the text ‘who are you running from?’
