From someone decapitating the world’s friendliest old man in to fitting your girlfriend into a suitcase we look at 9 Disturbing Cases of Missing Heads
9 – Russell and Shirley Dermond,
- You don’t hear of many elderly couples being as brutally murdered as Russell and Shirley Dermond.
- The couple in their 80’s had been happily married for 68 years, when it all ended in tragedy. Friends found Russell dead in the garage, head missing from where it should be and Shirley also just as missing. Shirley was later found by some fishermen, pulling her from a lake.
- Russell’s head still hasn’t been found though. Investigators believe Shirley was killed by blows to the head, probably by a hammer. I’m guessing Russell shared a similar and unfortunate fate.
8 – Robert Hollis,
- Apparently it must be popular among psychopaths to collect the heads of the elderly.
- 75 year old Robert Hollis was the kind of friendly old man who almost exclusively exists in 80s kid’s movies. Hollis’ son found his father’s body in his apartment on a routine visit to check up on his old man. Nothing had been taken from the apartment except for Hollis head.
- No suspects have been suggested as Hollis was friends with everyone, even his ex-wife and his head still hasn’t been found to this day. A reward of $50,000 has been put up for anyone who can help solve the murder of Inglewood’s favourite grandpa.
7 – The Cheltenham Torso Mystery,
- A mystery body that will probably never be identified, abortion rings, secret gay lovers and suicide. This story has it all.
- In 1938 some fishermen found at torso in their nets, missing a head and arms. One arm appeared to have been cut off with an axe. While unable to identify who it was, most believed it was Captain William Butt who had gone missing earlier that year.
- The closest idea of what happened is that his live in Nurse Irene Sullivan and her son Brian were running an illegal abortion ring, Brian was also sleeping with Butt but things went wrong. Butt threaten to reveal the ring and Brian murdered him. Brian killed himself soon after the body was found however the theory is very circumstantial.
6 – The Body in the Box,
- Sometimes you really, really don’t want to know what’s inside the mystery box, even if do think your gonna pull a new pair of shoes out of it.
- That last part might need some explaining. In 1886 a man walking his dog found what looked to be a box full of shoes. But as he got closer, instead of smelling Italian leather loafers, he could smell rotting flesh. The box contained the torso of a man with a stomach full of arsenic.
- Later that year the arms and legs were found in similar boxes. A bag had been noticed in the well but had vanished when townsfolk came back to retrieve it. The only trace of the head was a piece of scalp found in the well.
5 – St Louis John Doe,
- Well we don’t know anything about this victim except that he supported the Michigan Wolverines and liked Cocaine.
- The body was discovered by a hunter near St. Louis, missing his hands as well as his head. The man’s body was found to be wearing a 1987 Rose Bowl champions t-shirt and toxicology discovered cocaine in his system but something didn’t say this was the result of celebrating your sports team winning.
- Police believe that the murder was probably tied to the drug trade. In 2015 the body was dug up for further testing but we still don’t know who this die-hard wolverines fan is.
