Top 15 Hardest Video Game Bosses

From bosses clearly designed to make you buy a guide to encounters that make you want to pull your teeth out, we count 15 of the hardest video game bosses ever.

15 – Psycho Mantis – Metal Gear Solid,

  • Psycho Mantis is a rather unique boss fight with a gimmick that harkens back to the NES days of gaming, where it’s incredibly difficult to guess how to kill him without aid.
  • Psycho Mantis’s main theme is that he is a psychic that can read your thoughts, to the point where he breaks the fourth wall to punch you in the face with confusion as to how the hell you’re meant to beat him.
  • The way you’re supposed to prevent his ‘psychic attacks’ (aka input reading) is to swap the controller to the second port of the PlayStation, at which point he becomes incredibly easy to beat.

14 – Sephiroth – Kingdom Hearts II,

Sephiroth

  • Sephiroth is a pain in the dick to fight in Kingdom Hearts II, he relentlessly attacks and leaves little room for mistakes, of course if you gather a lot of items you can kill him a lot easier, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he’s one of the most difficult bosses to beat.
  • There is no trick or gimmick to killing Sephiroth all you have to do is learn the fight and maybe bring along some Jehovah’s witness pamphlets to distract him.
  • Or who knows? Maybe a flash light would kill him; he’s a part of the darkness right? Or is that Alan Wake?

13 – Ornstein and Smough – Dark Souls,

  • It wouldn’t be a hardest boss list without a fight from a Souls game, it wasn’t easy picking between Biggy and Smalls and Flamelurker, but in the end Timon and Pumba won out thanks to the fact that you can cheese Flamelurker using magic.
  • The best way to beat Asterix and Obelix is to kill Slim before Fatboy because Chunk is a lot easier to kill than Dirty in the second phase.
  • Also make sure to take advantage of the pillars and rely on rolling and evasion instead of heavy armour and blocking.

12 – Mike Tyson – Mike Tyson’s Punch Out!,

Tyson_PunchOut-2

  • Mike Tyson is a real beast in Punch Out!, he throws haymaker after haymaker in the first 90 seconds of the match and if you block one of his attacks you almost die.
  • So the only real method of killing him is dodging his unpredictable punches until the 90 second mark where you can safely land some hits.
  • Mike Tyson never played Punch Out! until 2013, but more interesting is the fact that he actually had enough remaining brain cells to use a NES controller.

11 – Sinistar – Sinistar,

maxresdefault

  • Sinistar haunts you all throughout the game, in a game that’s already very hard Sinistar still comes out on top as being the hardest part of the game.
  • At any point in the game Sinistar can come out with a taunt like ‘Beware, I Live!’ and will start chasing you throughout the level.
  • To top everything off the only way to kill Sinistar is be collecting special crystals by destroying asteroids, but don’t worry even if you kill him he’ll be back to make you pee yourself all over again.
